Illumined Path: Pray This Way With All Your Heart

From “How to Live a Holy Life,” by Metropolitan Gregory of St. Petersburg (1784-1860):

Illumined PathThe prayer that is most pleasing to the Lord God and most salvific for us is without a doubt the prayer that the Lord Himself taught us, that is, Our Father, Who art in the heavens, and so on.

Our Father. Father of everyone, including me.

May Thy name be recognized everywhere, may it be glorified by the holiness of our hearts and lives.

May Thy kingdom and the kingdom of truth, righteousness, and blessedness be introduced everywhere, be strengthened, and dominate.

May Thy will be done in all the earth by all people, always as faithfully and zealously as it is done in heaven by Thy holy angels.

May Thy bread feed, strengthen, and preserve our lives, both corporal and spiritual.

May Thy mercy forgive us all our debts that we have amassed to this day in our recalcitrance and foolishness, and may it teach us to forgive each other debts of every kind.

May Thy goodness and Thine almightiness preserve us from every sin and from every occasion of sin and temptation, that we all may be made worthy to be in Thine eternal and all-blessed kingdom. Amen.

Pray this way with all your heart, and be completely assured that your prayer will be heard and answered.
