New seminarian to begin studies at St. Tikhon’s

Subdeacon Gabriel Bilas with Fr. Don Anthony Freude at St. Elia the Prophet Orthodox Church in Akron, Ohio

Fr. Don Anthony Freude speaks to Subdeacon Gabriel and Laura Bilas, after reading special prayers for them following Divine Liturgy on Sunday, July 29.

Our St. Elia parish family gave a prayerful and joyous send-off to our own Subdeacon Gabriel Bilas and his wife, Laura, on Sunday, July 29, as they prepare to leave for St. Tikhon’s Theological Seminary in South Canaan, Pa.

Gabriel begins his studies at the seminary this fall, as he discerns his vocation to the Holy Priesthood. Laura will be pursuing her vocation as a nurse in a local hospital.

St. Elia Parish has been the spiritual home for Subdeacon Gabriel, where he was baptized, tonsured as a reader by His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of blessed repose, and then ordained a subdeacon by His Grace Bishop Melchisedek.

Let us remember them during the Divine Services at St. Elia and in our personal prayers, and may God grant them many years! Monogaja Li’eta!
