Join us Monday for the “Working On Ourselves” Webinar!
Do you feel stuck? Do you want to make a change but don’t know where to start? Wellness and nutrition specialist Rita Madden is here to help!
Join us at St. Elia at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, for a special webinar focused on guiding you through successful change utilizing the Holy Orthodox Tradition as the foundation.
We all have different areas that we need to work on; however, we can all utilize a behavior modification strategy that incorporates our faith and has been shown to help people make lasting change to address personal needs. Participants will be encouraged to participate in implementing processes into their day during the Nativity Fast (or at a different time if they choose) to help make sustainable and lasting habits to benefit their daily living. A bonus resource guide will be included that complements the workshop.
There are two different options for participation:
- Join us in-person at St. Elia for snacks and fellowship as we watch the webinar together downstairs in the parish hall. Doors open at 7 p.m.
- Or, register online to watch from the comfort of your own home via Zoom. To register, visit https://foodfaithfasting.gumroad.com/l/QhqVZ
Cost: To watch at home there is suggested minimum donation of $6, to be paid when you register online. We request that you make a similar donation if you attend in-person. Proceeds cover Rita’s operating expenses and the remainder goes toward Orthodox Christian charities and mission projects.
About the host: Rita Madden (MPH, RDN) lives in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is the nutrition director for Mediterranean Wellness, a company that focuses on sensible weight loss/management and chronic disease prevention/management. She is the author of “Food, Faith, and Fasting: A Sacred Journey to Better Health” and hosts a podcast of the same name on Ancient Faith Radio.
Questions about the webinar? Contact Aaron Gray via email. See you on Monday!
Latest news regarding COVID-19
Dearly Beloved in Christ,
Christ is risen!
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have been taking every precaution to protect the health and well-being of all of our people. In accordance with the CDC, the State of Ohio, and our Diocesan Directives, St. Elia Parish will follow the re-opening plan:
1) If you are sick and/or exhibit coronavirus symptoms, you must refrain from attending Services.
2) While the CDC and the State of Ohio have lifted the mask mandate, the social distancing and capacity restrictions, the State officials recommend that unvaccinated people continue to wear the mask indoors. The Diocesan Directives stress that everyone is welcome to continue wearing face coverings if there is any level of discomfort with this new guidance.
3) The kissing of Icons, the Cross, the Gospel Book and the priest’s hand when receiving the blessing is permitted if you are comfortable doing so.
4) The sanitizer and masks will be in the vestibule for your convenience.
5) Coffee Hour will resume following the Divine Liturgy.
Love in our Risen Lord,

Help those in need: Bring in toiletries and other needed items during Lent!
During Great Lent we are called upon to fast not only for reasons of self-control and prayer, but also for reasons of love: to deny ourselves something that we may share what we have saved with someone else who is in need. This Lent, our parish family will be collecting items for the Peter Maurin Center. Located just 5 minutes north of St. Elia at 1096 N. Main St., the Center serves unsheltered and marginalized individuals and families in the Greater Akron area by offering prepared meals, warm clothing and friendship at their facilities and in the community.
Look for the bin located near the entrance of church, and drop off your items as you come in each week. If you are not currently attending services, contact Aaron Gray to pick up your donations. Below is a list of ideas of items that are currently in need at the Center:
- Toilet paper
- Toiletries and personal hygiene items
- Bottled water
- Aluminum foil and plastic wrap
- Plastic zip bags: sandwich, quart, or gallon
- Cleaning supplies
- One-day Metro bus passes (these cost $2.50 each and can be purchased at the Metro Station and frequently at Giant Eagle stores)
Thank you for doing your part to help those in need!
