Service and outreach are an important part of Christian life. Find out how you can get involved in community outreach activities and service within the parish.
The Workers of St. Elizabeth
Our service group, under the patronage of St. Elizabeth the New Martyr, engages in ongoing community outreach projects, ever mindful of our Lord’s commandment that “Whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers, you did for Me.” (Mt. 25:40) Past projects have included collecting items for local organizations that provide housing and hot meals, English-language tutoring at an area shelter, and sending care packages to our service men and women overseas.
The Sisterhood of St. Juliana
Women in our parish meet regularly following Sunday Divine Liturgy to plan upcoming meals and events. The Sisterhood, under the patronage of St. Juliana the Merciful, was formed in 1983 and developed a reputation for fine food throughout the ’80s and early ’90s when it operated “Baba’s Kitchen” out of our parish hall, serving up tasty lunches to the public. The women of our parish’s Sisterhood have produced two cookbooks, “Baba’s Best,” and “Baba’s Best II,” and are always ready to contribute their time and talent to events in our parish and throughout the Akron Orthodox community.
Liturgical Service
There are multiple ways to serve God and the parish during services. Opportunities for participating during services include joining the choir, becoming an altar server, reader or holding the triple candle (troyci) during the Gospel reading. Bakers are also welcome to assist with baking prosphora for communion. See Fr. Don to find out how you can participate in services.
Time & Talent
There are many ways to provide service to the Parish by donating your time and talents whether it’s assisting with lawn mowing, general maintenance, mending vestments or a multitude of other small tasks around the church.
