Meditation: Why is seeing and hearing so difficult for us? Advent affords us a wonderful opportunity to practice the art of seeing and listening. Take note on your observations and conversations  and discern the presence or absence of the Lord in them.

CHURCH SCHOOL 2012-2013

Church  School classes are held on Sunday  mornings. Following the Divine Liturgy, the children go to their classes in the Church Hall.

The theme for this year is “Jesus, the Good Shepherd.” A shepherd takes care of is sheep. The sheep knows the Shepherd’s voice, and they follow where he leads them.  “Jesus said, ‘I am the good shepherd.  The good shepherd gives his life for his sheep.’”  John 10:11

The adults of our community remain in Church during the Church School time for a special session of Q&A—questions and answers. Please remember that our children’s time in Church School is very precious.  During the children’s class time, please do not be in the Church Hall visiting and conversing. This is distracting for the teachers and children.

THE ADVENT WREATH

On November 15, forty days prior to the celebration of the Feast of our Lord’s Nativity, the Holy Orthodox Church begins the Christmas Fast.  This period of six weeks is often called Advent, which means the Coming, and refers to the Coming of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the Mystery of His Holy Nativity.

To help in our preparation, we have an Advent Wreath in Church. The Wreath made of evergreens will have six candles on it – one for each week in Advent. Each Sunday, along with special prayers, we will light a candle on the wreath – as we prepare ourselves to receive Christ the Light of the world into our hearts.

Today we will light the 3rd candle on the Advent Wreath. Come, Lord Jesus!
