The Feast of our Lord’s Ascension, forty days after Holy Pascha, will be celebrated with the Vesperal Divine Liturgy on Wednesday evening, May 23, at 6:00 pm.

During the Nocturnes on Holy Saturday night the Holy Shroud of our Lord was taken from the tomb and placed on the Holy Altar while we sang the beautiful Hymn to the Mother of God from the 9th Ode: “ Do not lament Me, O Mother, seeing Me in the tomb, the Son conceived in the womb without seed.  For I shall arise and be glorified with eternal glory as God. I shall exalt all who magnify you in faith and in love.

And now before the celebration of the Vesperal Divine Liturgy of the Feast of the Ascension, the shroud is removed from the Holy Altar as we sing: “Be Thou exalted, O God, above the heavens and let Thy glory be over all he earth.”
